Why Coatings Fail

  1. Coatings are porous, allowing H2S gas, O2, and moisture through.
  2. Bacteria can also get through, colonize behind the coating.
  3. Bacteria turn the gasses and moisture into Sulfuric Acid.
  4. Sulfuric Acid attacks the concrete.
  5. Concrete becomes Calcium Sulfate (gypsum), crumbles away.
  6. The coating falls off.
